If You Can't Take a Vacation, Your Sales System Is Broken
Here's the real test for a solopreneur or small business owner:
If you took a two-week, "no-laptop, no-phone" vacation, what would happen to your sales pipeline?
If the answer is "it would completely dry up," you don't have a business. You have a high-stress job where you're the only employee.
This is the "solopreneur's trap." We become the bottleneck. Every lead, every call, every email, and every proposal must pass through us. We can't hire a VA or a salesperson because it would take "too long" to train them.
We think, "It's just faster if I do it myself."
This single mindset is the ceiling on your growth.
You're Not Just "Onboarding" a Person; You're "Onboarding" the Process
When I talk to companies with a small to mid sized sales team, I ask them, "Could you hire 10 new salespeople tomorrow, or would your business collapse?"
For a solopreneur, the question is different, but the principle is the same: Could you hand your sales process to one new person (a VA, a part-time rep) and have them making calls in 48 hours?
If the answer is "no," it's because you don't have a system. You just have a "brain dump" of stuff you do.
If you would have to "hold their hand" through every step, you haven't bought yourself freedom; you've just created a new, full-time management job for yourself.
Even if you aren’t planning on hiring a salesperson, creating a simple, repeatable system is guaranteed to improve the health of your business.
The "Call-Ready" System
This is the third, critical component of my KYSS (Keep Your Sales Simple) philosophy. You must have a sales system so simple and so well-documented that it can be handed off.
A scalable system frees you, the founder, to work on the business (strategy, growth, vision) instead of just in the business (making every single call).
This isn't just for "big teams." It's most important for a team-of-one. It's the only way you can ever scale beyond yourself.
In my 15-minute e-book, KYSS: Keep Your Sales Simple, I give you the 3-part framework for building this "onboarding machine":
I'll show you how to build a "Self-Paced Course"—a simple, scalable way to train anyone (even yourself, to stay consistent) without you repeating yourself.
I'll give you the "Film Room" technique, a brilliant way to let your first hire learn from real examples so they understand the "how," not just the "what."
You'll get my "First Call Feedback Loop," a simple, non-invasive system to review their performance and give feedback without micromanaging or listening in on live calls.
This blog post is the "why." The e-book gives you the "how."
Build Your Full System
This "Call-Ready" system is just Component 3 of my 6-part "KYSS" framework.
I've compiled the entire "no-BS" framework into a 15-minute manual. It's the full, actionable playbook designed to help you build a complete sales machine—from simplifying your product to the 5 metrics that actually matter.

The KYSS e-book is the "what"—the complete, actionable manual.
But what happens when you have a question about your specific business? Who reviews your sales call? Who helps you apply the system?
That's why I built the Selling Pens Community. It's the sales team for the team-of-one.
It's a private, professional workshop where you can get real feedback and stop guessing.
